Analysis

What the numbers say

Popular Force polls 14.1% in Peru (poll-of-polls avg of 5 recent verified polls), up 6.9 points this quarter.

↗ Surging momentum

Popular Force polls 14.1% in Peru (poll-of-polls avg of 5 verified readings), gaining +6.9 points over the last quarter with a +7.1 point move across the verified window. That places Popular Force #42 of 56 tracked parties worldwide, with room to climb toward the leading pack.

If Popular Force can capitalize on current trends, consecutive gains tend to compound through media coverage, donor confidence and bandwagon polling effects. Watch whether the next round of releases confirms the average above 14.1% — a hold above that line would signal consolidation rather than a single-poll outlier, while a second straight quarterly gain would put rivals under severe strategic pressure.

Key issues & ideology

Anti-immigrationSocial ConservatismRight-Wing Populism

Fujimorismo is authoritarian-nostalgic populism: the 1990s remembered as pacification (Shining Path defeat) and growth (Fujishock stabilisation), the crimes and sterilisaitons recast as excesses or lies. FP demands mano-dura security against extortion gangs, Venezuelan-migrant controls, mining-investment facilitation and the defence of the 1993 constitution against constituent-assembly projects.

Voters asking "who is Popular Force?" or "what does Popular Force stand for?" find the party classified here as anti-immigration, social conservatism, right-wing populism — positioning that explains both its ceiling near 14.1% and where further growth must come from.

Party profile

Popular Force: history, ideology and voters

A concise reference on Popular Force of Peru — where it comes from, what it stands for, and who votes for it.

History

Popular Force (Fuerza Popular, FP) was founded in 2010 by Keiko Fujimori as Fuerza 2011, the electoral vehicle of Fujimorismo after her father Alberto and the 2009 human-rights conviction. Keiko lost three consecutive run-offs — 2011 to Humala, 2016 to Kuczynski by 0.2 points, 2021 to Castillo amid fraud claims that polarised the country — yet built Peru and the largest party machine: 73 of 130 seats in 2016, collapsing to 24 in the fragmented 2021 Congress. From opposition FP propped the Boluarte presidency after Castillo and the 2022 removal, trading stability for institutional spoils in what critics call the pactito — shared control of the Constitutional Tribunal, Ombudsman and electoral bodies. Keiko and the Odebrecht money-laundering prosecution dragged through the courts without final conviction, feeding both persecution narratives and anti-corruption disgust. Through 2025-26, with a dozen-plus presidential candidacies fragmenting the 2026 race, FP polled in high single digits — diminished, disciplined and still the right and the only true national organisation. Keiko and the widely expected fourth presidential bid in 2026 will test whether the Fujimori brand still commands a run-off berth in a field crowded with outsiders.

Ideology

Fujimorismo is authoritarian-nostalgic populism: the 1990s remembered as pacification (Shining Path defeat) and growth (Fujishock stabilisation), the crimes and sterilisaitons recast as excesses or lies. FP demands mano-dura security against extortion gangs, Venezuelan-migrant controls, mining-investment facilitation and the defence of the 1993 constitution against constituent-assembly projects. Economically it is neoliberal with clientelist practice: AFP pension defence, informal-sector tolerance, populist bonuses. Socially conservative on abortion, gender and family with evangelical alliances. Foreign policy is Washington-friendly and Lima-establishment. Scholars describe a personalist right-wing machine sustained by patronage, media (Expreso, Willax) and the memory of order — democratic in form, illiberal in reflexes. On decentralisation it defends regional mining royalties and Lima and the fiscal prerogatives, aligning with business elites against constituent-assembly economics.

Voter demographics

FP voters are Lima and the popular north and east, provincial capitals and the Amazon piedmont: market vendors, combi drivers, small miners, evangelical mothers and Fujimori-era beneficiaries. The party wins the urban informal poor and the anti-left middle class, loses the southern Andes (Puno, Cusco, Arequipa), teachers, students and human-rights-adjacent professionals. Women backed Keiko at higher rates than men in 2021. Education effects are inverted-U: primary and secondary support, postgraduate opposition. Fujimori-loyal households transmit votes generationally. Turnout is machine-driven: ollas comunes, transport and local brokers deliver in a fragmented field where organisation beats enthusiasm. Venezuelan migrants with voting rights lean unexpectedly sympathetic, crediting Fujimorismo and the hard line against the left they fled.
